Product information

Wegovy Tablets are prescription weight management tablets containing semaglutide. They are used for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults where clinically appropriate, alongside a reduced-calorie meal plan and increased physical activity.

How to use

Take Wegovy Tablets exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine.

Wegovy Tablets are taken once daily. Treatment usually starts with a low dose and is gradually increased over several months, where tolerated and clinically appropriate.

The usual dose schedule is:

Month 1: Wegovy 1.5mg once daily.

Month 2: Wegovy 4mg once daily.

Month 3: Wegovy 9mg once daily.

Month 4 onward: Wegovy 25mg once daily, where suitable.

Your clinician will confirm the correct dose and review your treatment. Do not take two tablets to make up a higher dose.

Take Wegovy on an empty stomach after a recommended fasting period of at least 8 hours. Swallow the tablet whole with a small sip of water, up to 120ml. Do not split, crush or chew the tablet, as this may affect how the medicine is absorbed.

After taking Wegovy, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines. Waiting less than 30 minutes can reduce absorption of semaglutide.

If you forget a dose, skip the missed dose and take your normal dose the next day. Do not take an extra tablet to make up for a missed dose.

Do not stop taking Wegovy without clinical advice. If side effects are difficult to tolerate, or if you are not losing weight as expected, your treatment should be reviewed.

Main Ingredients

Wegovy Tablets contain semaglutide as the active ingredient.

Other ingredients include salcaprozate sodium and magnesium stearate.

The 1.5mg, 4mg and 9mg tablets are essentially sodium-free. The 25mg tablet contains 23mg sodium per tablet.

Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with your specific medicine before taking Wegovy Tablets.

Side Effects & Cautions

Some people experience side effects while taking Wegovy Tablets. Very common side effects can include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, feeling weak or tired, upset stomach and indigestion.

Common side effects can include dizziness, burping, wind, bloating, gastritis, reflux, heartburn, gallstones, hair loss, changes in taste, changes in skin sensation and low blood sugar in patients with diabetes.

Uncommon side effects can include low blood pressure, feeling dizzy or lightheaded when standing, fast heartbeat, raised pancreatic enzymes, delayed stomach emptying, low blood sugar in patients without diabetes and raised bilirubin levels.

Wegovy can cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, which may lead to dehydration. This is especially important if you have kidney problems. Drink enough fluids and seek clinical advice if you are unable to keep fluids down or feel dehydrated.

Stop taking Wegovy and seek urgent medical advice if you develop severe, persistent stomach pain, with or without vomiting. This may be a sign of pancreatitis, which can be serious.

Seek urgent medical help if you develop signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, breathing problems, wheezing, fast heartbeat, dizziness, weakness, collapse or severe rash.

Contact a clinician urgently if you notice sudden loss of vision or rapidly worsening eyesight. Wegovy has been linked with rare serious eye-related side effects, and patients with diabetes should report any change in vision during treatment.

Wegovy must not be used as a substitute for insulin. If you have diabetes and take insulin or a sulfonylurea, your risk of low blood sugar may be increased and your diabetes medicines may need review.

Wegovy may not be suitable if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease, delayed stomach emptying, diabetic eye disease, significant kidney problems, gallbladder disease, eating disorder history, or if you are due to have surgery under anaesthesia.

Do not use Wegovy if you are pregnant. If you wish to become pregnant, treatment should usually be stopped at least 2 months before trying to conceive. Wegovy should not be used while breastfeeding.

Tell your clinician about all medicines you take, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and herbal products. This is especially important if you take diabetes medicines, levothyroxine, warfarin or other oral anticoagulants.

Wegovy Tablets are not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years.
