Product information

Movicol Lemon & Lime sachets are an osmotic laxative for constipation. Macrogol 3350 draws water into the bowel to soften hard stools and restore comfortable bowel movements, with electrolytes to help maintain balance. Dissolve in water and expect effect from around 24 hours. Suitable for adults and children 12+.

How to use

Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 125 ml of water and drink. For constipation in adults and children 12 years and over, take one sachet one to three times daily according to need. Do not use for longer than two weeks without medical advice. For faecal impaction, only use on medical advice; the usual adult regimen is up to eight sachets over six hours, for up to three days, and if you have a heart condition you should not take more than two sachets in any one hour. If symptoms persist, worsen, or you develop severe abdominal pain, seek advice.

Main Ingredients

Each 13.8 g sachet contains macrogol 3350 13.125 g, sodium chloride 350.7 mg, sodium bicarbonate 178.5 mg and potassium chloride 46.6 mg. When made up to 125 ml, the solution provides sodium 65 mmol/l, chloride 53 mmol/l, bicarbonate 17 mmol/l and potassium 5.4 mmol/l, which equates to about 187 mg sodium and 26 mg potassium per sachet. Flavourings include lemon and lime; sweetener is acesulfame potassium (E950).

Side Effects & Cautions

Bloating, wind, abdominal discomfort, nausea or diarrhoea can occur, usually mild and short lived. Allergic reactions are rare but can be serious; stop and get medical help if you develop rash, swelling or breathing difficulty. Do not use if you have bowel blockage, perforation, severe inflammatory bowel disease or unexplained abdominal pain with sickness. The product contains sodium and potassium, so seek advice if you are on a restricted-sodium or restricted-potassium diet, have heart or kidney disease, or take diuretics. Movicol does not affect the ability to drive or use machines. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, elderly, have persistent constipation or need long-term treatment, ask a clinician for advice.
