Product information

Dymista Nasal Spray is a dual-action nasal spray used for moderate to severe allergic rhinitis, including hay fever and year-round allergies, where clinically appropriate. It contains two active ingredients: azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine, and fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid.

How to use

Use Dymista exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine.

Dymista is used in the nose only. The usual dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over is one spray into each nostril in the morning and evening, where suitable.

Shake the bottle gently before use. If using the spray for the first time, prime the pump by spraying into the air until a fine mist appears. If the spray has not been used for more than 7 days, it may need to be re-primed.

Blow your nose gently before use. Keep your head tilted slightly downwards and do not tilt your head backwards. Insert the spray tip into one nostril, close the other nostril with your finger, press the pump once and sniff gently. Breathe out through your mouth, then repeat in the other nostril.

Avoid spraying into your eyes. After use, wipe the spray tip with a clean tissue or cloth and replace the protective cap.

Use Dymista regularly to get the full benefit. Do not use more than directed. Using higher doses or using steroid-containing nasal sprays for longer than advised may increase the risk of side effects.

Do not stop using Dymista without advice if it has been prescribed for ongoing allergic rhinitis control. If symptoms do not improve, worsen, or you need treatment for longer than expected, seek further clinical advice.

Main Ingredients

Dymista Nasal Spray contains two active ingredients:

Azelastine hydrochloride 137 micrograms per spray.

Fluticasone propionate 50 micrograms per spray.

Other ingredients include disodium edetate, glycerol, microcrystalline cellulose, carmellose sodium, polysorbate 80, benzalkonium chloride, phenylethyl alcohol and purified water.

Dymista contains benzalkonium chloride. This may cause irritation or swelling inside the nose, especially with long-term use. Tell your pharmacist or prescriber if you feel discomfort when using the spray.

Side Effects & Cautions

Some people experience side effects while using Dymista. Very common side effects can include nosebleeds.

Common side effects can include headache, a bitter taste in the mouth and an unpleasant smell. A bitter taste may be more likely if the head is tilted backwards during use.

Uncommon side effects can include mild irritation inside the nose, stinging, itching, sneezing, nasal dryness, cough, dry throat or throat irritation.

Rare side effects can include dry mouth. Very rare side effects can include dizziness, drowsiness, cataracts, glaucoma, increased pressure in the eye, damage to the skin or lining inside the nose, feeling sick, tiredness, weakness, rash, itching, hives or bronchospasm.

Seek urgent medical help if you develop swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing or a sudden skin rash, as these may be signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Contact a clinician if you experience blurred vision, visual changes, frequent or heavy nosebleeds, sores inside the nose, persistent nasal pain, worsening irritation or symptoms that do not fit typical allergic rhinitis.

Dymista is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if you are allergic to azelastine hydrochloride, fluticasone propionate or any ingredient in the spray.

Extra clinical review may be needed if you have had recent nasal surgery, a nasal injury, a nasal infection, tuberculosis, an untreated infection, glaucoma, cataracts, increased eye pressure, impaired adrenal function, severe liver disease, long-term steroid use, pregnancy or breastfeeding considerations.

Tell your clinician about all medicines you take, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and herbal products. This is especially important if you take ritonavir, cobicistat, ketoconazole or other medicines that may increase steroid exposure.

Dymista is not recommended for children under 12 years. Children and adolescents using nasal corticosteroids for long periods may need monitoring, as steroid nasal sprays may affect growth when used long term.

Dymista may rarely cause fatigue, dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drive, cycle, operate machinery or do tasks requiring alertness if affected. Alcohol may increase these effects.

A note from our pharmacists. If symptoms persist, worsen or keep returning, speak to our pharmacist, your GP, or call NHS 111. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children. In an emergency call 999.
